 “Creativity can’t be quarantined.”

Charlotte is 26 year old artist from Nottingham. As an artist she has been currently working with mixed media and LEGO bricks to create portraits of recognisable people. It was a medium she decided to use after being put on furlough from work due to COVID 19. She was struggling to deal with the fact her life had changed so drastically. Going from a busy lifestyle to doing nothing at all. Trying to stay safe and away from the old reality. She felt isolated and alone with her own thoughts. This is why she turned to creativity.

After having a clear out of cupboards, trying to keep herself busy she was reminded of her childhood. Charlotte came across some old LEGO bricks but instead of playing with them as normal she wanted to experiment to see what she could come up with. Back when Charlotte was studying Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University they were encouraged to use ‘found objects’ to create their artwork. This was to help students pick the direction that they would like to take with their work.

Charlotte has since been made redundant from her job as an events coordinator at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel due to the global pandemic and now is concentrating on her artwork full-time. The reason Charlotte is drawn to using recognisable faces as her subjects is to help other people relate to her work on a deeper level. She hopes to create other projects with different media in the future.
